control in times of weakness (life under control week 4 day 4)

"Should you seek to keep your life under control simply to avoid negative consequences? No. You have a far more important reason - to honor Christ with your life."

We are to live a life worthy of our calling:
I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. (Ephesians 4:1-3, ESV)
...you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lordfully pleasing to him, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God. (Colossians 1:9-10, ESV)

My motivation for living a godly life isn't fear of God's punishment or to try to earn his favor. I have to remind myself of this often. "I am saved by grace through faith because God said so not because of anything I've done or not done," I tell myself on a regular basis.

He has given us strength to face, victoriously, the struggles that come into our lives and threaten to overcome us. Our strength as Christians is in his might (Eph 6:10) and God is able to do more than we even think or imagine (Eph 3:20). We can remain steady on the course God has sent us on because he is more than able and willing to do what he promised (Rom 4:20-21). Knowing this we fight our circumstances with Christ's strength (Col 1:29) by turning to him in prayer and his Word, for he has already equipped us with everything we need to face every situation concerning godliness through the knowledge of him i.e. read the Bible (2 Peter 1:3).

The way I see it then is that there are two possibilities when a Christian is a failure. Either they weren't walking in the Spirit, or their failure is only in the eyes of man, whereas God see a successful obedient child doing exactly what God called him to do.

The theme I am sensing through this Bible study is that a successful life is one that is devoted to God through prayer, and Scripture, and obedience.
