Good News

When I come across a product that really works, I eagerly share it with those I love. I want them to experience the same joy and happiness that I have experienced with the product. Some friends and family think I'm trying to "sell them something" as if I gain by their purchase. But I don't get anything out of it other than an increased joy in knowing that I contributed to someone's betterment and increased quality of life. If I share something with you, it's because I love you. I'm not trying to offend you. I'm not asking for your money. I don't get anything out of it.

The good news of today's post is just that, the Good News. The Gospel. "Gospel" literally means "good news". But why are so many offended by it? People are offended because it implies they were wrong. Our pride often stops up our ears and refuses to allow us to admit that perhaps we're not perfect. People often accuse Christians of believing they are the only ones with Truth. It's a common misconception. Christians believe that God holds Truth and has revealed it in the Bible. This is why there are so many sects of Christianity. We all believe the Bible, but some hold one aspect more firmly than others. But all Christians believe some fundamental Truths. Thanks to Martin Luther and the reformation, we have the Bible written in common language and is available for all to read. Read the Bible for yourself to find the Truth.

Allow me to practice the Roman Road to Salvation...

I am eager to preach the gospel to you...

God’s power can make us secure...
What is God's power? The GOSPEL is God's power for salvation! Who is it for? Everyone! "First to the Jews" means God came to mankind through the Israeli nation. "Greek" is reference to all non-Jews, not necessarily someone from Greece. This is great news because it means you do not need to be one type of person or another. All people are the same! All need God and God is available to all!

This power, the power of God, results in change.

Repentance means to change direction. Being content with one course of action, repentance changes your course. Contrition and humility (not humiliation), acknowledging error in ones life choices and choosing a different direction is repentance. But why do we even need to change?

It is because of sin that we need to change.

What does it mean to fall short of the glory of God? You can imagine a target at one side of the Grand Canyon while everyone stands at the opposite side with bows and arrows drawn. The target is perfect glory, the glory of God. Each person tries to hit the target. They are each given one arrow. And no person no matter what natural talent he has will ever hit that perfect target on their turn. Their arrows fall short.

Even though we are separated from God because of our sin, He still loves us.
He made the ultimate sacrifice and died in our place. This is good news! Even though we hadn't earned his gift in any way, he still gives it to us. With God we don't need to be good enough. He just graciously shares himself with us!

Sin earns death, but God gives life to those who want it.
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. If you knew this Truth, out of love for your friends, wouldn't you feel obliged to share it with them? Can you fault me for wanting to save you from death when all you must do to be saved is take the free gift of Jesus? You are loved.

What can you do to take this gift?

Confess that you are a sinner in need of God’s grace, repent and turn away from your sinful lifestyle, believe in Jesus, and call out to Him!
because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.
(Romans 10:9-10 ESV)
For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
(Romans 10:13 ESV)

The words aren't important. The action of genuinely committing one's life to Christ is what matters most.
Only you and God can truly know your heart and intentions.

We now have hope!
For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
(Romans 8:38-39 ESV)

Faith means a life for God
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. (Romans 12:1 ESV)

Jesus himself said that he gives salvation and no one can take it from those to whom he gave it.
I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.
(John 10:28 ESV)
